Roy and I were invited to dinner with Adrienne's family this past week. When we arrived Gunnar had his laptop open and was busy researching guns. He began to ask Grandpa Roy questions about the kicking power of the various guns. Then Roy suggested that he should take a hunter safety course. He immediately googled it and found out that you have to be 12. Not willing to give up he told his dad to search for "gun safety classes for 10 year-olds." I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want any of my 10-year old loved ones to own a gun, but it's okay for them to go shooting with grandpa Roy, and that's just what Gunnar did this week. Roy, Dan, Gunnar and Hyeji met on Tuesday evening and practiced shooting for about 90 minutes.
This has been a hard start to the summer for some of my grandchildren. Finn broke his arm last week, and this week Doyeon followed suit. She broke both her arm and her elbow, so she will get a cast next week when some of the swelling goes down. On the same day Dojin fell off a swing and had to get several stitches in his chin. When I went over to see Doyeon, Yuna proceeded to demonstrate how Doyeon broke her arm by climbing the tree that Doyeon had fallen out of.
So far, Nick's kids haven't broken anything, but that doesn't mean they're not getting into trouble (see pictures below).

Dojin cried when they used the shots to numb his
chin, but he held perfectly still which really surpised
the doctor. |

One afternoon this week, Roy met Bruce and they drove to the Miller Sports Park. They were able to drive their cars as fast as they wanted. With all the curves and turns, Roy said 85 was about as fast as he wanted to take it. Bruce said he mostly stayed in that range as well. Roy said he would have loved to take me but they don't allow passengers. I'm pretty sure I was happier at home--it would have scared me to death.

Roy has finally set aside a little time for himself. He also went with Dan Friday morning and hunted for jack rabbits. Dan has been watching a Netflix show called Meat Eater, and it has given him some interest in hunting--and eating what he kills. Roy shot the only rabbit of the day, but Dan butchered it and cooked it. They had us over for dinner that night.

In the next two pictures we are eating with the Dan Rasband family. The food on the far left of the photo are Korean ribs with mushrooms, carrots and other vegetables. The middle dish is the rabbit, again with assorted vegetables. The white stuff is a food made out of acorns. It was pretty tasty, but like tofu it really doesn't have much taste--it's the stuff that is on it that has flavor. This was very Korean. At the end are some traditional Korean sides, radish kimchi and some other vegetable.
As you can see in the picture that Yuna is in, she was eating this vegetable even before the prayer.

After dinner, Roy left to get some grocery shopping done, and I stayed and hung out for a while. Hyeji picked up the book about grandpa Vernon that Jenny Cook Norton put together for his 90th birthday. We chose the Rasband section and went through the pictures. There was a picture with my Clyde grandparents so I told the kids the story of how my real maternal grandmother passed away when my mom was only 18 months old. I explained how he had remarried Jennie, my grandmother's sister, and she was the one I always knew as "grandma." Hyeji asked if that's why Jennie is named Jennie. I affirmed. Then Yuna said, "This is too much talking!"
Roy, Crista, Matt and Caitlyn also went biking in Logan for the Grand Fondo this weekend. There is a choice of how many miles you ride. Matt was going to do 70, but since he has been working so hard on his house, he opted to ride with the group and just do 35. While they were doing that, I was attending meetings on Zoom (1st my staff meeting for water aerobics, and 2nd the Cook Family Organization meeting). Afterwards I drove to SLC to meet up with some high school friends. Bonnie Barker Howard, Suzanne Young Jones, and Lisa Badger. We had brunch together, then called Anne Davey and caught up with her. It's been many years since we've visited with Anne, though the rest of us get together every few months.

Our stake has still not reconvened church. We have an older demographic and so the Stake President isn't comfortable with it yet. We continue to have our wonderful sacrament meetings at home. I do miss church, but I also enjoy the different feel of worshiping at home. This week we studied Korihor and his tactics. As usual, I loved studying the lesson. There is so much we can learn from reading about the anti-Christ's in the Book of Mormon. These lessons are included because we are faced with many of the same tests today. There are 3 main anti-Christ's in the Book of Mormon, and they all teach different false philosophies. They are "doctrines of Satan," of which there are many--but remember, there is only one doctrine of Christ. We can contrast the false teachings with the true and decide right now who we will follow. The Zoramites chose to follow Satan. In their prayers they called him holy, but they describe Satan when they pray at Rameumptom
,
"
God; we believe that thou art God, and we believe that thou art holy, and that thou wast a spirit, and that thou art a spirit, and that thou wilt be a spirit forever."
We learn also, that Satan will not support his followers in the end. Korihor had to beg for his food and eventually went over to the Zoramites, who should have accepted him as he taught things that were pleasing to the wicked, but they trampled him under their feet until he was dead.
60 And thus we see the end of him who perverteth the ways of the Lord; and thus we see that the devil will not support his children at the last day, but doth speedily drag them down to hell."
We are leaving tomorrow to go to Flaming Gorge for most of the week. Nick, Ori, Effie and Caitlyn are going with us. We were going to take Oli, too, but he is very involved with sports and is such a good athlete, his teams probably don't want to do without him. Anyway, that's why I am finishing up the letter tonight (Saturday), so I don't have to take my computer with me.
I hope everyone has a great week and stays healthy. Wear your masks--the prophet has asked us to do so. Love to all!
